Lung Cancer Screening for Early Detection of Lung Cancers

Lung cancer screening is a method to try and detect lung abnormalities which may be the early stages of lung cancer. It is primarily for patients with a smoking history where if an early lung cancer is detected, then this can be targeted for treatment.

Studies show that early detection of lung cancers lead to a much better outcome compared to when lung cancers are detected later, when they may have spread or have started to cause other problems.

Often early lung cancers have little or no symptom and are often not visible on chest X-rays. Therefore a CT scan is used to detect for any abnormalities.
